Very interesting topic. I remember when I was a student manager making the bus station run to drop off and deliver film. I thought there had to be a better way given the resources available today.
I utilized the pre-paid mailer and blank DVD method this season and had a little better than 50% return rate per game. Except in a couple of occasions, I gave one to each team on Friday night to double my chances and that definitely helped.
I’m using the Ulead DVD Movie Factory software that came loaded on my Toshiba laptop to make clips and hope to make a training video for my group for next summer.

I agree wholeheartedly. Film review in a general sense doesn’t seem to get the attention at the lower NCAA or NFHS levels. I wish that were a different story. Tape is such a powerful training tool and I believe also an accelerator in terms of learning.
We need more instruction on how to properly break down film, how to learn from what you see and understand exactly what to look for in the process.
I too attempted to gain film from my high school games this year. I fared just a bit better receiving 7 of 11 games back. Your idea of providing to both teams is something I hadn’t considered…I just worked the home team each week. Great tip there!
I’m experimenting with Windows Movie Maker (free with my machine too) and hope to have some test videos over the off-season. Keep me posted on how yours come out please.
Thanks for the comments!
