What Others Are Saying About ProFootballReferee.com and Todd’s book – Forward Progress: Confessions from a College Football Official

“With a Who’s Who of football officiating, this book is a must-read for every football official around the world. The information contained in this book will help everyone from the first year pee-wee official to the one at the top of the officiating world.”

Grant Jackson Conway, AR

“I think what your doing is great for officials trying to move up. I am currently a Division II official working in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and getting someone to give you a look is tough. Keep all the information coming. I think it is a must for all officials.”

– Doug Kennedy, Madison, WV

“Todd, I have very much enjoyed the material you have been kind enough to share with your fellow officials. It has been a valuable learning tool, plus it helps to know there are guys out there with the same questions and concern I have. Keep it coming!” — Scott Maphis, Salisbury, NC

“Quick note to say ‘well done’ with what you presented for reading. Although we have not met, I found myself mentally following your story matching it to my own as I am also a first year college official (Big Sky). There are so many roads to moving up and many mentors along the way. I’m sure everyone has their own unique stories that fellow officials can relate to but it takes someone with the talent to put pen to paper and make it visual to the reader. Again…good job.”

– Ken Wolf, Phoenix, AZ

About Todd Skaggs

First, let me thank you if you are checking out this site. I small project that started in December of 2008 and it continues to grow every month. Second, let me tell you a little about the author (me). I am a football official from Louisville, KY entering my 9th season. I officiate in both the Kentucky High School and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Association (Division II) where I have work as a Field Judge for the past three seasons.

In addition to this blog, I’ve also authored a book called Forward Progress: Confessions From A Rookie College Football Official. The intent of the book is to provide insight from officials at the highest levels on what it takes to improve and move up the ladder. I have interviewed over 50 NFL and NCAA officials on their career as well as NCAA conference commissioners seeking what they look for in prospects or as they evaluate new talent. As a result of the interviews, I have consolidated all the information, identifying trends and interesting information, then wrote a book for a target audience of aspiring and motivated officials like myself. I can honestly say this information better prepared me for taking the next step and I want to share this with other like-minded officials.

I also host the Referee Nation podcast where I interview football officials from all levels and we discuss strategies, tips and techniques for such things as:

  • Finding a Mentor
  • Applying to Officiate College Football
  • Video/Film Review
  • Rules Study Tactics
  • Position Breakout Tips
  • And many, many more topics…..

This site is by the refs, for the refs – my motto is to continue to bring you the best and most current information to help all officials world-wide achieve their goals. The only way I know to do that is to…

Be the Best on the Field
